1870’s Argument Against Suffrage

I’ve been meaning to link to this post by Laura over at her blog Full Of Grace Seasoned With Salt She came across a rather lengthy letter written by a woman that was published in Harper’s titled “Female Suffrage: A Letter to the Christian Woman”

Its much too long and too many things I would want to quote to bring it all here. Its a good read and I recommend it highly. In fact, Laura has been on the Women’s Suffrage topic for a couple weeks. Might take a while to catch up on it but its all very nicely done.

    Thanks Erik 🙂
There will be a lot more in the future.
It’s turning into one of my main focuses. Just so much to say.

Too funny Dan! Way to go all White Knight. Your use of shaming language is very feminine but not that terribly good. Perhaps the above link will help you perfect your shaming language, but please note that no one will actually take you seriously when that is the extent of your post.

You will note that I was not making the case against female suffrage, rather it was a woman in the 1870’s which was blogged upon by another female. If I were to make a case, it would be that no women, and most men should not be able to vote. And I would happily give up my vote to ensure that it is in the hands of only a few. Its rather demonstrable that universal suffrage has led to the deplorable state of affairs in the western world with the poor plundering the rich as there are many more poor than there are rich.

    Dan,

How in the world do you think that Saudi Arabia looks anything like pre-universal suffrage America? If there is something to be ashamed about it was that comparison right there.

The Constitution was written with limited suffrage and it worked just fine at keeping the Rights of the Citizens and controlling the growth of the government. And as for the deplorable state of affairs we are in, have you not paid attention to the news? We are bankrupt! We are adding 1.4 trillion to the national debt this year alone. Guess who gets to pay that back? Thats right, our kids! We are spending money that we don’t have, and perhaps never will. To get a better understanding of just how big our debt is, check out US Debt Clock. Adding 1.4 trillion will put as at a ~100% debt to GDP ratio. Greece is at 114% and they are now at fiscal crisis stage. Saying that it wouldn’t happen here is pure poppycock. It could and it will. Especially as we have a legislature and executive branch trying to add even more unconstitutional programs which will increase the rate of our fiscal failure.

Guess what? All these things that are causing our nation to go bankrupt? They all started after universal suffrage. Whats that quote about democracies only lasting until the populace learns it can plunder the treasury? Yeah, thats what is going on today.

    I have seen the enemy…

    And he is unarmed

Dan, just why is it that I should ask people how the “feel” about anything? How about we look at actual facts and not subjective feelings eh? If you have any facts to offer, please bring them to the adult table. Otherwise go play with the other kids
